Event location:
Shawnigan Lake, BC, Canada (45 Km. North of Victoria)
Swim: Half-Iron = 1.9 KM, Sprint = 500m
Swim in West Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park
Swim the tranquil waters of this picturesque lake. The water temperature is predicted to be 16-19 degrees Celsius so a wetsuit-legal swim is very likely. The water will be quite cool. It is suggested that you bring an additional swim cap to wear underneath the race swim cap that will be provided to you by the race. You may want to also consider ear plugs if you are susceptible to ear infections.
All participants in the Half-Iron must finish the swim before the cut-off of 8:15AM. There is no cut-off for the Sprint.
All participants will be given a swim cap that must be worn during the swim.
Bike: Half-Iron = 88KM, Sprint = 22KM
Bike on the rolling hills that surround Shawnigan Lake in the charming Cowichan Valley. This will be a 4 loop route for the Half-Iron and a single loop for the Sprint race that is scenic yet challenging. It is your responsibility to count your 4 laps for the Half-Iron bike course. The timing crew will tell us after the race if you did not complete 4 laps which will result in a disqualification.
All Half-Iron participants must finish the bike before the cut-off of 12:15PM. There is no cut-off for the Sprint.
Aid Stations: 1 aid station per loop.
Run: Half-Iron = 21.1KM, Sprint = 5KM
Run on the Cowichan Valley Trail
The run route will take place on a non-paved surface on the Cowichan Valley Trail. The trail is a historical railway bed set on a wide packed trail under the beautiful BC tall cedars. The Half-Iron portion of the trail includes a breathtaking view of the Kinsol Trestle from the turn-around point. The Sprint route heads North 2.5km, turns around and heads back to the transition and finish area.
All Half-Iron participants must finish the run before the cut-off of 3:00PM. There is no cut-off for the Sprint.
Aid Stations: 8 aid stations on the course for the Half-Iron and 2 aid stations on the Sprint race.
Start Time:
Half-Iron = 7:00AM, single wave in waist deep water start. This is a 2 lap course where you will stay in the water as you go on to the second lap.
